Annie Cooper has a love and passion for swimming that knows no bounds.
Annie began swimming when she was four years old. Her mom took her to swim lessons at the Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn. There, the instructor made swimming so much fun that she loved it on the spot.
As Annie grew, swimming played a major role in her everyday life. From being the youngest member on the Holy Name Swim Team in Brooklyn to competing all over the Metropolitan area for the Prospect Park YMCA Swim Team as well as for Saint Saviour High School Swim Team. Annie was captain of her high school swim team and held numerous records at Saint Saviour High School. Annie traveled to State Championships, Empire State Games and National Championships.
For Annie, the cheers, the van rides, the bus rides, the car rides, the travel, more cheers, the sense of community, meeting new people. It was all such a gift.
Swimming then gave Annie yet another gift in the form of a scholarship to Fordham University, where she earned her BA in English Literature. (Excitingly, Annie also once held a record in the 400 IM at Fordham).
Annie coached several elementary and high school swim teams while she was a student at Fordham, including her high school alma mater.
After college, Annie began coaching at the National level and learned a lot. Shout out to Len Galluzzi for these opportunities and for seeing Annie's value, when she was straight out of college. She has since coached and instructed swimming throughout her life, wherever she has lived: California, Connecticut, Oregon, Brooklyn, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and now, her home for the past twenty plus years, Vermont.
Throughout her time in Vermont, Annie has coached Masters Swim, several swim teams, been the creator, founder and head coach of the Aqua-X Swim Team & Program, the Assistant Aquatics Director and Head Dynamo Swim Team Coach at the Greater Burlington YMCA, has created, instructed, and coordinated swim programs throughout the year, as Swim with Annie, for The Learning Pool, The Essex Resort & Spa, as well as the Maple Street Pool in Essex Junction for Essex Junction Recreation and Parks.
Annie has, of course, created, founded and built Swim with Annie Programming at many facilities, most notably PT360, The Essex Resort & Spa and Maple Street Pool.
Annie resides in Essex Junction and is the proud parent of her three children Bohdi, Kahyl, and Tyhe.
Annie's goal is to foster this same love of swimming in all who come through her programs.
Annie believes swimming is a lifelong skill that can take many forms: fun, fitness, competition, solace, relaxation.
Whatever it is you choose, you must first find ease in water and feel a love for it.
